Need to get a large photo below 1MB? An image that is several megabytes can usually be brought under the limit by reducing its compression level, dimensions, or both. The goal is to lower the file size without making important details difficult to see.
Instead of manually changing image settings, use the 1MB target and let the compressor adjust the file.
Open the image you want to optimize.
Choose 1MB as the maximum file size.
Start the compression process.
Save the resulting image once processing is complete.
This is useful when you need to convert an image to less than 1MB without editing the picture manually.
A high-resolution phone photo may contain far more pixels than necessary for an online upload. If compression alone does not bring it below the limit, reduce the image's width and height or crop areas that are not needed.
For regular photographs, JPEG can also produce a smaller file than formats that preserve more image data. The right combination depends on the original picture and the quality required for the final upload.
If you need a tighter file limit, you can compress an image to 500KB.
Check the saved file's properties on your computer or its information panel on your phone. Confirm that the file is 1MB or smaller, then check whether the destination website has additional requirements for dimensions or format.
